About 3,000 residents attended the Jalan Kayu Family Day on 21 Jun 2009 at the community park at Buangkok Crescent. PM Lee Hsien Loong was the Guest-of-Honour for this event.

Opening this annual event, MP Mr Wee Siew Kim said that the overarching theme this year was family and care for the needy. Programmes like Family Walk-A-Jog, Family Futsal Competition, Family Kite Design Competition, Family Look-Alike Photo Competition, etc, are for the 'Family' theme. As for the 'Care' theme, the event also marked the launch of Heart-String, which is a joint project with Buddhists Lodge to give necessities like rice, sugar, beehoon, etc and organise healthy lifestyle outing and meal for needy families and senior citizens every month.

There were stage performances from ITE College West (Ang Mo Kio), Fernvern Primary School, Rosyth School, Pei Hwa Secondary School and Nan Chiau High School. The carnival site was also filled with various food and games stalls, 312 Acupuncture demonstration, radio control helicopters flying demonstration, aircraft and helicopter hobby models, exhibition of photographs of old Jalan Kayu...
